Twelve string teachers. Three days at 10,200 feet. The unpublished research on why your students can play anything and create nothing — and the method built against it.
Reserve a seat →Not a piece. Not a scale. Just eight bars of anything, out of their own head, right now.
You already know what happens. The bow stops. The eyes go to the stand, and the stand is empty. This is a student who can sight-read a Bartók quartet and cannot invent a single phrase — and every string teacher in the country has watched it happen and quietly wondered whether it was something they did wrong.
It wasn't. If you have ever felt like the one person in your building who thinks something fundamental is missing from string education, you were not being difficult. You were right. What follows is the evidence.
I measured the thing everyone assumed was fine. Twice. First: what are string teachers actually trained to do? Second: what are the books they're handed actually teaching?
| 361 | Colleges surveyed | Every accredited undergraduate music program in the country, cross-checked against each institution's own published catalog. |
| 56% | Of string tracks require no creativity pedagogy at all | No improvisation. No composition. No arranging. Nothing that teaches a future teacher how to get a student to make something up. For wind and brass, the figure is 14%. |
| 1 in 10 | Colleges offer a string track with any creative coursework | Thirty-two institutions out of 361. Of those thirty-two, four require a string student to take a single course in it. |
| 7% | Of printed pages ask a student to create anything | Theory, melodic construction, and arrangements take roughly seventy percent between them. Actual creation gets seven. |
| 0% | Improvisation in the audio of two of the four books | Not "some." Zero. Across their entire recorded content, two of the best-known books on the market ask a student to invent a single note zero times. |
| 5% | Of all audio content is ear training | Against 37% for melodic construction — echoing a written line while reading it. The book is still open. The eyes are still leading. |
Note. Every page and every second of accompanying audio was coded against a defined content taxonomy. Books are named, and the full coding methodology presented, on Day 1.
Most of what is labelled improvisation isn't. Call-and-response, where the student echoes a phrase printed on the page in front of them, is not creation — it is repetition with a rhythm section.
The teacher was never trained to do this. Then they were handed books that couldn't do it either. Nobody in this chain has been failing. The system was never there — and it has been missing for a generation.
Both studies are under embargo and have never been presented publicly. Day 1 at Breckenridge is the first time they will be shown — the complete figures, the books named, the coding methodology, and what CLIME has produced against the gap across three countries.
CLIME™ certification is built in modules. Breckenridge is the only time Modules 1 and 2 are taught in one sitting.
Why students freeze, and the system that stops it. This is the machinery underneath everything else.
Taking a class from spontaneous sound to a finished, recorded original — and the string technique that holds it together.
From 2027, Modules 1 and 2 are offered separately at $599 each. Breckenridge is the founding cohort — both modules, taught together, for $800. It will not be run this way again.
Both studies, in full, for the first time — the complete figures, not the headline ones. The 361-college survey, and then the method-book analysis: every page and every second of audio, coded and counted. You will see which books, and exactly where they fail. Then what CLIME has produced against the gap — three countries, real cohorts, real results. You see the evidence before you see the solution. We also set out what being a CLIME™ educator opens up, so you know what you are building toward.
The CLIME philosophy, the Backend Filter, and the Dual-Track System — and exactly how to operate them with classically trained students who have never made up a note in their lives.
Collective Composition and the Phenomenon of Emergence. String comping. Turning what a class writes into an audio learning resource. Then you teach it — to each other, with feedback — and earn the credential.
Check in on August 2. The full hour-by-hour schedule is sent to registered attendees.
The CLIME™ Action Workbook has never been released. It is not sold, not published, and has never been handed out at a conference. Each copy is individually numbered and printed with the name of the educator it is assigned to.
Certification lets you teach your own students. Training other teachers is a separate authorisation — and the path to it opens only for the founding cohort.
Licensed to lead the method with your own students, in your own classroom or studio. Listed in the educator directory.
One of the first twelve. Named permanently — and the only group eligible for the trainer path.
Authorised to train and certify other teachers. Requires completing the year of mentoring, running CLIME in your own program, and written approval.
This is the part that does not reopen. Educators certified after 2026 will have no route to Teacher Trainer. The twelve people in the room in August are the only ones who will.
There are good camps that will give you an inspiring few days of making things up. They work — on the people already in the room. What none of them can tell you is why the last twenty years of materials failed, because nobody measured them.
That is the difference between a weekend that feels good and a system you can still run in February, with thirty students who did not choose to be there.
And you would not be the first. String players have flown to national conferences on their own money to stand up with this work and say the same thing out loud. They were not looking for a new hobby. They were looking for evidence that they were not the only one.
Choose how you would like to pay and add your lodging nights — the total updates as you go. Nothing is charged on this page; you will receive a confirmation with payment details.
Your place is confirmed when the licence agreement is signed and the first payment clears — first come, first served.
You may attend on an instalment plan, but the credential and teaching licence are issued once the balance is settled.
Fly to Denver, then roughly ninety minutes west. Check in on August 2 — the Lodge sits at 10,200 ft, and arriving the night before gives you a day to adjust.
The workbook and method are confidential and patent-pending. Certification licenses you to teach your own students; training other teachers requires separate written authorisation.
